Clinical Study Results
One of the most important studies showing the positive effect chiropractic care can have on the immune system and general health was performed by Ronald Pero, Ph.D., chief of cancer prevention research at New York's Preventive Medicine Institute and professor of medicine at New York University. Dr. Pero measured the immune systems of people under chiropractic care as compared to those in the general population and those with cancer and other serious diseases. In his initial three-year study of 107 individuals who had been under chiropractic care for five years or more, the chiropractic patients were found to have a 200% greater immune competence than people who had not received chiropractic care, and 400% greater immune competence than people with cancer and other serious diseases. The immune system superiority of those under chiropractic care did not diminish with age. Dr. Pero stated, "When applied in a clinical framework, I have never seen a group other than this chiropractic group to experience a 200% increase over the normal patients. This is why it is so dramatically important. We have never seen such a positive improvement in a group..."

Study: Chiropractic Care is Better than
Pills for Chronic Neck Pain
It has been proven at last: chiropractic care, is indeed better for chronic neck pain than taking medications or doing exercises alone.
A number of Americans suffer from chronic neck pain. Statistics say that 75 percent of the population has experienced this complaint at some point in their lives, and the cause is usually unknown. Most of these instances are not really serious; they are often due to holding the wrong posture when sleeping, at work, or while doing household chores.
However, in many cases, chronic neck pain begins to affect the lifestyle of sufferers, even to the point of lowering their quality of life. This is why taking painkillers can be a very attractive option for some; take one pill and the pain magically disappears! Unfortunately, there are a number of issues associated with long-term medication usage, including but not limited to addiction.
In new research published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, it was found that chronic neck pain sufferers are better off without any medication at all. The researchers followed three groups of patients for three months: one group using medication for treatment, another using exercise, and the third group using the services of a chiropractor.
The results were clear: the patients who did not use medications were more than twice as likely to have no pain at all after three months, compared to those who used pills like aspirin or ibuprofen for the pain. More than 30 percent of those who had regular chiropractic care said that after around 15 sessions, they no longer experienced chronic neck pain. In comparison, only 13 percent of those who used medications felt pain-free.
Some health professionals who were interviewed about the article agreed with the findings. According to a medical doctor teaching family medicine at the University of Michigan, chronic neck pain is a mechanical problem, and since chiropractors use mechanical methods to treat this condition, it’s not a surprise that chiropractic care works.
Spinal Adjustment is an especially good technique to apply to chronic neck pain, since it’s misalignment of the vertebrae which usually irritates the nerves and causes pain. However, chiropractors don’t just do spinal manipulation; they look at the patients holistically too. They provide homework of stretching assignments to promote flexibility, as well as nutritional and lifestyle counseling to help them manage the pain better.
If you’re one of the many Americans suffering from chronic neck pain, better get rid of those pills now and consult a chiropractor. You will feel all the better for it.
